Sasha Campbell
Art Moves Dance Company

Sasha started taking tap and ballet classes at the age of 6 in a small dance studio in Western Maine and instantly fell in love. She continued to travel around the state of Maine to further her dance training at studios such as The Dance Center in Auburn with Elizabeth Hansen and Casco Bay Movers in Portland with Bruce Tracy and Laurie Chiasson. At 15 she found herself at Art Moves Dance Studio taking a hip hop class. Within the next year she was taking every other class she could, dancing with the Art Moves Dance Group, and teaching.

Throughout high school she taught variant classes at local elementary schools in West Paris, South Paris, and Hartford Sumner through the Art Moves into the Schools project. On top of this she taught Tap and Hip Hop at the studio itself and created the Crew, a teen hip hop performing group that she choreographed for. She also choreographed for the High School Show Choir and drama shows.

She has spent her summers dancing at various intensives including Parsons Dance Company Summer Intensive in New York, NY, Earl Mosley Institute of the Arts in Kent, CT, Art Moves Summer Intensive in Norway, ME and Bates Dance Festival in Lewiston, ME. Through these intensives she has worked with such artists as David Parsons, Earl Mosley, Michael Foley, Shonach Mirk-Robles, Katiti King, Jennifer Archibald, Brian Brooks, M’Bewe Escobar, and Rachel List.

Sasha graduated from Oxford Hills in 2005 is currently attending Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus in New York City double majoring in dance and psychology. There she has studied with Dana Hash-Campbell, Nathan Trice, Alenka Cizmesija, Ted Levy, Donna Uchizono, Kevin Wynn, and Elizabeth Goheen. Through her dance adventures she has training in various techniques of Modern dance, Ballet, Hip Hop, Jazz, African, Tap, and any other style she can get her hands on. She looks forward to her next year at school and working with new artists in the city such as Niles Ford of Urban Dance Collective.

Though she loves New York City she has found that she is a Maine girl at heart and greatly appreciates her summers dancing in the country and the opportunities that have been provided for her through Art Moves. She is so happy to be dancing with the company and thanks them for being welcoming, accepting, and supportive at the time she needed it most.
