 HISTORY OF EVENTS

The teen Art Moves Dance Group has it's roots in a patriotic show called Energize U.S. performed at military bases and as an AFS benefit at Oxford Hills.  It became the teen troupe Energize US! in San Francisco with its members from several Bay area schools, winning grants, awards and a letter of commendation from then Mayor Dianne Feinstein.  Upon Debi's return to Maine, the teens became Energize US! East, then the Dance Inside Out Group, and now the Art Moves Dance Group.  The women and men from these troupes have become dancers and doctors, mothers and managers.  All of them are remarkable and unique individuals, truly making the world a better place with their creative approaches to life.  "Troupe" alumni are a positive and passionate people.

WHAT IS AUTISM?  Autism is a neurological disorder that affects a person’s ability to communicate, interact with others, and develop a range of interests and activities. Autism is a lifelong disability that affects one out of every 166 people.  It is currently the most common developmental disability.

THE AUTISM SOCIETY OF MAINE is a non-profit organization whose membership consists of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), their families, members of the community, and the professionals who work with them.  As a chapter of the Autism Society of America, their mission is to promote lifelong access and opportunity for all individuals on the autism spectrum to become participating members of their communities.  Education, advocacy, support and public awareness form the cornerstones of the Autism Society of Maine’s efforts to carry forth their mission.

ART MOVES SHOWS STUDENTS & PROS

The Art Moves Dance Project brings all of its elements together for a one-time special event on Saturday, January 14th  at OHCHS in the auditorium.

Tickets for the 7:00 P.M. performance are $10 in advance at Books 'n' Things and Pick-A-Lily and $15 at the door. Family rate (up to 6 people) is $20 in advance or $30 at the door.  Several local schools will have free tickets available.

The fun Dancas Brasileiras performed to a sold-out gala crowd at its premiere in November has proven to be equally popular among students at Bethel schools.

The Art Moves Dance Company will dance these modern jazz samba delights, with the lighting of longtime lighting designer Nate Allen.

Also featured will be students from Waterford and Hartford Schools who are engaged in long-term residencies with Art Moves into the Schools.

The teen troupe and other Art Moves students will round out the program with their soulful dances to music from "O Brother, Where art Thou".

A favorite soloist returns:  Bruce Tracy, Maine's best B-Boy will join us, as will Sasha Campbell in a trio with her college-mates at Long Island University in Brooklyn, New York.

Longaberger Basket fans will have opportunities to win a basket and support the Art Moves Dance Project.
