ART MOVES SHOWS STUDENTS & PROS

The Art Moves Dance Project brings all of its elements together for a one-time special event on Saturday, January 14th  at OHCHS in the auditorium.

Tickets for the 7:00 P.M. performance are $10 in advance at Books 'n' Things and Pick-A-Lily and $15 at the door. Family rate (up to 6 people) is $20 in advance or $30 at the door.  Several local schools will have free tickets available.

The fun Dancas Brasileiras performed to a sold-out gala crowd at its premiere in November has proven to be equally popular among students at Bethel schools.

The Art Moves Dance Company will dance these modern jazz samba delights, with the lighting of longtime lighting designer Nate Allen.

Also featured will be students from Waterford and Hartford Schools who are engaged in long-term residencies with Art Moves into the Schools.

The teen troupe and other Art Moves students will round out the program with their soulful dances to music from "O Brother, Where art Thou".

A favorite soloist returns:  Bruce Tracy, Maine's best B-Boy will join us, as will Sasha Campbell in a trio with her college-mates at Long Island University in Brooklyn, New York.

Longaberger Basket fans will have opportunities to win a basket and support the Art Moves Dance Project.

Portland Dances!
produced by
Portland Ballet

Celebrating choreography and dance from the greater Portland area.

Two pieces from Art Moves Dance Company have been selected for the show:

Valentine Sisters - a comic modern dance trio choreographed by Joanna Patterson and performed by Emily Carter, Joanna Patterson, and Amy Scott.  Take a look at what happens when you stare at yourself in the mirror too long, lamenting your love life.

and Tem, Nao Tem (Have, Have Not) from Dancas Brasileiras which premieres in its entirety this fall.  Crossing back and forth between strength, seduction, and surrender, this dance pulses to the haunting music of Bebel Gilberto.  Choreographed by Debi Irons, and performed by Emily Carter, Magi Chapman, Debi Irons, Joanna Patterson, and Amy Scott.

Friday & Saturday, August 19 & 20 at 8 PM
John Ford Theater at Portland High School on Cumberland Ave right near City Hall for more information go to

Says Irons,  "I went to the audition for dancers and there were some great dancers there, doing some very exciting and diverse choreography.  I can't wait to see it!"
